Ken Clements is an interesting character, of whom and by whom we’ve been reading a lot of late. We plan to write about Clements in the near future, but for now we’ll just post an article by Clements on a really interesting character.
In 1983, Clements more or less stumbled into meeting and assessing a very young Terry Tao. Clements then wrote about these meetings in a thoughtful and touching article. The article is paywalled, but we happened to see it posted. So, what the hell. You can read Clements’ excellent article here (07/02/26 Link updated).

I was a Masters student of Ken Clements, and for some time a colleague and once a co-author with him, in Australia, in the mid-1970s, and when Ken was working at Deakin University (Geelong).
I would be interested in any other blogging you have on Ken, following this brief comment with the link to Ken’s article on Terence Tao as child prodigy.

I haven’t written directly on Ken Clements, except when he died. But Ken has served as a bit of a (worthy) foil on occasion. I posted here when Ken died, and that post has links to further posts.
