That was a hell of a show.
It was never the plan for me to go see Lady Gaga. Although she is obviously an excellent songwriter and singer and performer, I had never paid Lady Gaga much attention and it was going to be Ying taking Eva and Lillian. But, the way the tickets turned out – two seats here and two seats there – it made sense for me to join the party. I am very very grateful that I did.

I’ve never been one for big stadium concerts, where one is either squinting at the star-dot a kilometre away or giving up and watching the screen. But Lady Gaga was phenomenal and her show was phenomenal, filling the stadium in a manner that almost (but not entirely) made up for she herself being a star-dot a kilometre away. The show was way over the top with self-conscious theatrics: with a monster skull on the stage it was impossible not to think of Spin̈al Tap. But it was all so well done, so huge, Lady Gaga was so damn good, you couldn’t help but get into it.

I’m still not one for big stadium concerts. But if you’re gonna do it, that’s the way to do it. Lady Gaga transforms the rock concert into high art.
