  1. A nice reminder that we are all human and any society can go like this. We are not immune and it looks like things are going to get rougher!

    1. Thanks, JJ. Yes, the danger is always there.

It is a tricky balance. Too much concern for “cohesiveness” is stifling when not full-blown authoritarianism. Which is why that censorious idiot Inman Grant is such a problem. And, Albo’s visa cancelling today of that Jewish twat Yahood is ridiculous. In general, you have to let idiots be idiots.

But when the shared fundamental sense of the society disappears you can enter dark waters very quickly. The xenophobia in the US is off the charts, and it is not healthy in Australia. The idea that “illegals” are generally a greater threat to anything other than the dirty dishes no one else will deign to wash is utterly insane. And the problem isn’t the lunatics like Trump, or the blatant fascists like Miller, or the psychopaths like Noem and Bondi. The problem is the body of the the Republicans, the “normal” ones, who know damn well that this is madness and simply do not have the balls to call it out. They are the truly evil people here, selling this fascism to their voters. In a YouGov poll, 44% of Republicans regarded the shooting of Pretti as justified. That is fucking insane, and the insanity is directly due to Vance and Johnson and Graham and the rest of those gutless, unprincipled Republican cocksuckers.

The most frightening book I ever read about Nazi Germany and the holocaust was Goldhagen’s Hitler’s Willing Executioners. The ability of a civilised society to become evil when insanity becomes the norm cannot be underestimated.

  2. Absolutely – particularly George W Bush whose counter-productive forever wars contributed to Trump’s rise and while he has nothing to lose, remains silent.

    1. I’m less critical of Bush in this regard. Of course Bush was an appalling president, an idiotic front man for Cheney and all the other psychopaths, and he properly belongs in jail. But I don’t think Bush has exactly been “silent” in regard to Trump. Bush has been pretty much silent about everything since he was president. Yeah, he has some status to say something, and he should. But I don’t put him in the same category as the currently active bootlickers.
