Nah, I’m kidding, of course. WA couldn’t care less what you think. WA has provided you the opportunity to say what you think, however, and you should take it. Enough of this, and WA will have no choice but to care.
The Schools Curriculum and Standards Authority is Western Australia’s VCAA, the guys responsible for stuffing up WA school mathematics. We have closer fish to fry, of course, so we have never paid much attention to the SCSA, but they have been asking for it. Late last year, the SCSA taught us how to linearly order complex numbers along with other madness. Some years back, we posted upon a sequence of SCSA madnesses to which we had been alerted. On both occasions, we contacted SCSA to point out that their exam questions were, to use the technical term, buggered. On both occasions, SCSA made it crystal clear that they didn’t give a stuff about what a mathematician might think. Yep, pretty much the same as VCAA. And the N-E-T gang.
SCSA is now undertaking a syllabus review of the senior subjects Mathematics Methods and Mathematics Applications. (God knows why and how this can be done without also reviewing Mathematics Specialist, but the SCSA works in wondrous ways.) The “working party” has done their working and their partying, and draft syllabi have been prepared, here (and embedded below). There are online briefings on the new syllabi, and anyone can provide feedback as part of the “public consultation”: simply fill out the surveys located in the locked filing cabinet down the cellar, behind the door with the sign saying Beware of the Leopard.
Whether due to scheming or incompetence, it is hard as hell to navigate the pages for SCSA’s reviews. It is all sorted out below.
Please look and please tell SCSA what you think. SCSA will not listen but that is not the way this works. VCAA did not listen either until they had no choice (and VCAA are not listening again until they again have no choice).
This is the first step in giving SCSA no choice.
