We haven’t had a RatS for a long time, and I’d basically given them up. A couple weeks ago, however, Matt Taibbi wrote a plaintive howl, which seems well worth sharing. Taibbi is one of only two writers/organisations that I pay to read, and one very few writers consistently principled, willing to write what he knows and only what he knows, and without ever seeking to play into tribalism. Taibbi’s howl-post is on the Trump-binary perversion of journalism. The post is public, and Taibbi of course encourages the sharing of his public posts. I hope, therefore, it is not overstepping the bounds to reproduce the post here: Taibbi is great, and people should subscribe to Taibbi’s Racket News. Sluts
(Yes, it’s all been too hard, so I’ve decided to do a Rundle and end it all quickly. The title oughta do it pretty well.)
Last month, I wrote a post riffing off Cooking in a Bedsitter, a very funny and much loved cookbook by Katherine Whitehorn. In preparing the post, I read a bit about Whitehorn who, no surprise, turned out to be a very funny and very feisty lady. Whitehorn was a young woman in 50s London and thrived in the liberation of the times. Not mainly sexual liberation, although that also seemed part of it, but more intellectual and social liberation. Whitehorn revelled in no longer needing to be dainty or so proper. For some great little interview snippets with Whitehorn, go here.
That’s All Mungo Wrote

Mungo MacCallum 1941 – 2020
This awful year just continues to give. It probably wasn’t because of his pure maths degree, but Mungo MacCallum had been a great writer and a great journalist just about forever. Mungo’s short farewell to us can be read here.
